Acne & Acne Scars

Acne is not a exclusive to teenagers. Many adults have trouble with acne too.

There is a marked increase in acne amongst woman in their mid to late 30 that seems to be hormonally driven as well.

Acne is caused by acne-causing bacteria (P. Acnes) proliferating in an oily environment such as a skin follicle. Skin follicles congest due to a buildup of oil (sebum), makeup and debris as well as our skin’s slowing cell turnover rates. These acne-causing bacteria trapped in congested skin follicles cause what we see as pimples, pustules, whiteheads and blackheads.

For effective management you have to dress all of these areas that cause acne , therefore you might need more than just one form of treatment for your skin.

At SKIN we specialize in assessment and  management of both active acne and acne scarring. We only use medical grade skin care, this means the active ingredients of the skin care is of a quality and concentration that it can only be prescribed by a medical clinic , with a qualified trained medical doctor as a director.

For active acne we use energy based devices (lasers) , microdermabrasion with Hydrafacial machine , blue light therapy , and chemical peels.

Dr Slabbert has a passion for, and speciality training in acne scar management. Scarring almost always needs a combination therapy, and every patient needs their own custom treatment plan .

As well as using the above mentioned procedures , we also use ablative lasers (erbium ) , radio-frequency microneedling ( Scarlet RF) , microneedling with plasma rich platelets ( PRP) , subscission ( removing the scar  bands that hold the scar down ) , and sometimes excision ( surgically removing the scar itself )

Consultations are always complimentary.
